Drop continues on bourse as worries mount

The Greek stock market continued its downward slide on Tuesday as Spanish jitters added to doubts about the outcome of this month?s general election, with the main index declining well below the 500-point mark.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 476.36 points, shedding 5.09 percent from Friday?s closing figure of 501.90 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index shrank by 5.11 percent to close at 169.88 points.

All but four blue chips posted losses, led by Eurobank EFG (down 15.22 percent) and Bank of Cyprus (9.54 percent). Jumbo added 2.78 percent.

In total, 31 stocks recorded gains, 94 posted losses and 13 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 45.4 million euros, down from last Friday?s 57 million.
