Week of stock gains ends with final spurt of growth

After the massive gains registered on Thursday, the Greek bourse ended the week with an additional rise for most stocks on a day of remarkable fluctuations.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 560.26 points yesterday, 1.85 percent up on Thursday?s 550.10 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index closed at 213.77 points, up 3.81 percent.

Judging by the 45 percent weekly increase in turnover and the 13.7 percent rise of the benchmark index, investors appear to be betting on the certainty that the next Greek government will be formed by pro-bailout parties.

Friday?s turnover came to 94.6 million euros, up from Thursday?s 81.5 million.

PPC outperformed with gains of 19.63 percent, while Coca-Cola HBC lost 6.45 percent.

In total, 90 stocks posted gains, 37 registered losses and 20 remained unchanged.
