PPC and OPAP secure gains for bourse?s index

State stocks kept the Greek stock market afloat on Monday, a day when most European markets registered significant gains. Banks had a patchy session, resulting in a number of ups and downs for the benchmark index.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 615.47 points, adding 0.71 percent to Friday?s closing figure of 611.16 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index gained 0.22 percent to close at 227.64 points.

Public Power Corporation was a standout performer, reaping gains of 8.56 percent, followed by the OPAP gaming company (up 5.05 percent). Alpha Bank contracted by 4.76 percent.

In total, 69 stocks posted gains, 49 recorded losses and 21 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 35.6 million euros, down from last Friday?s 51.9 million.
