Shops launch special offers before sales

The retail sector is doing all it can to attract consumer interest with generous offers, despite the fact that the official summer sales period does not start until July 16.

Major enterprises such as the Zara, Massimo Dutti and Bershka chains, all owned by the Inditex group, have been offering discounts of up to 40 percent since Thursday.

Local firm Raxevsky began offering holders of free Benefit loyalty cards 50 percent discounts at the start of the week.

Market representatives argue that price cuts and special offers are the only weapon retailers have to rekindle consumer interest as yearly losses came to an estimated 40 percent in the election months of May and June.
