Bourse ends week on a high

Stocks posted an unexpected rise on Friday thanks to solid performances by a number of key blue chips, although turnover on the local bourse sank even lower.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 621.78 points, adding 3.60 percent to Thursday?s closing figure of 600.16 points. On a weekly basis, the index contracted by 2.67 percent.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 4.05 percent on Friday to close at 226.13 points.

PPC added 8.12 percent, before announcing it would not distribute any dividends. Ellaktor performed even better, adding 8.26 percent.

Marfin Investment Group declined by 1.71 percent, after rising 14 percent on Thursday.

In total, 83 stocks posted gains, 40 recorded losses and 23 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to just 17.8 million euros, down from Thursday?s 19.1 million.
