Swiss to halt Thessaloniki-Zurich service

In a letter to tourism agents and other sector professionals, Swiss International Air Lines announced it would be halting its Thessaloniki-Zurich service as of end-October.

Switzerland?s flag-carrier cited financial reasons and the general restructuring of its flight schedule. The last flight from Zurich will be on October 27 and the last from Thessaloniki on October 28.

The Thessaloniki Professional Chamber responded to the announcement by asking Swiss to review its decision and revise it, while asking the authorities of the city and the country, ?who go on about the extrovert character of business and about tourism,? to try to convince the airline?s management to retain the Zurich-Thessaloniki link.

The chamber added that the service was a crucial one for Thessaloniki tourism and particularly conference tourism, which is vital for the city?s professionals.
