Shrinking turnover suggests investors are losing interest

With turnover on the Athens Exchange continuing to shrink, it appears that the local bourse is increasingly being viewed as irrelevant to the majority of investors who might take an interest in an underperforming market such as the Greek one.

Wednesday?s turnover was the year?s fourth lowest, at just 17.4 million euros, compared with Monday?s 25 million.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 612.38 points, shedding 1.22 percent from Monday?s closing figure of 619.97 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 0.88 percent to close at 222.27 points.

OTE telecom outperformed on Wednesday with gains of 3.96 percent, while Coca-Cola HBC declined by 4.68 percent.

In total, 55 stocks posted gains, 65 recorded losses and 31 remained unchanged.
