Gov’t sees highway projects boosting GDP, employment
Greece?s government appointed Efthimios Vidalis on Tuesday to start talks on unblocking four major highway projects, which it said could boost gross domestic product by 1.5 percent and create thousands of jobs.
?The deep economic crisis and lack of liquidity in the financial sector, which affected the financing of the projects and concessionaires, lead to delays in implementation of the contracts,? according to an e-mailed statement from the Athens-based Development Ministry.
Vidalis will negotiate an initial agreement by September 30 and the aim is to have Parliament approve the plans by the end of the year, according to the statement.
