Bourse edges upward after another day of poor turnover

There was little stirring in the stagnant waters of the Greek bourse on Wednesday, in what was a ding-dong session that ended on a high mostly thanks to the generally positive mood across European stock markets.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 588.09 points, adding 0.25 percent to Tuesday?s closing figure of 586.64 points.

However, the blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined by 0.48 percent to close at 209.49 points.

Cyprus Popular Bank suffered huge losses of 29.58 percent, while Piraeus Bank outperformed with gains of 7.50 percent and Public Power Corporation grew by 5.60 percent.

In total, 46 stocks posted gains, 54 recorded losses and 26 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 22.5 million euros, compared with Tuesday?s 16.9 million.
