Stock market Draghi-ing its feet for another day

Capital markets across the European Union were underwhelmed by the statements of the head of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, with the benchmark index of the Greek bourse suffering losses of more than 1 percent on Thursday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 592.74 points, declining by 1.08 percent from Wednesday?s closing figure of 599.22 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 1.82 percent to close at 213.02 points.

Hellenic Petroleum outperformed with gains of 2.24 percent. Alpha Bank was the worst off among blue chips as it lost 5.56 percent.

In total, 58 stocks posted gains, 55 registered losses and 21 remained unchanged.

Turnover shrank to 20.2 million euros from Wednesday?s 24.6 million.
