Business calls for action

A business leader Wednesday reiterated a proposal for the setting up of a special body to fight illegal street trading.

Constantinos Michalos, president of the Central Union of Chambers of Greece (KEEE) also advised Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras to lower corporate taxes to 15 percent for a period of at least five years.

He further called for instituting minimum deemed earnings criteria only for those professional groups that are proven to systematically avoid and evade taxes and for a limited period.

Other issues raised were the reduction in VAT for tourism services and that business arrears to the government be offset against payments overdue to private sector suppliers.
