Stock market index climbs to four-month high

The Greek bourse bucked the trend set by foreign markets on Tuesday, climbing to its highest level in the last four months, albeit on very small turnover.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 651.77 points, adding 1.46 percent to Monday?s closing figure of 642.37 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 1.50 percent to close at 234.81 points.

All except one of the blue chips registered gains, led by Jumbo (up 6.70 percent) and Ellaktor (4.76 percent).

Piraeus Bank was the only loser as it contracted by 1.57 percent, closing at the day?s lowest point for the stock.

In total, 71 stocks posted gains, 41 registered losses and 28 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 20.2 million euros, compared with 17 million on Monday.
