Buyers come from behind to beat sellers at end of trade

A sudden upswing in the price of most stocks after 2 p.m. on Tuesday saw the benchmark index of the Greek bourse reverse its early losses and secure respectable gains for traders who had chosen to position themselves in the market during the morning.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 755.98 points, up 2.86 percent on Monday?s 734.99 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 3.96 percent to close at 282.21 points.

Banks led the way among the blue chips, with Bank of Cyprus adding 13.75 percent and Eurobank Ergasias climbing 13.48 percent. Coca-Cola HBC declined by 2.84 percent.

In total, 93 stocks secured gains, 47 suffered losses and 18 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 76.1 million euros, compared to Monday?s 47.2 million.
