Attractive hotel rates in Athens
Greece ranked at the top of eurozone countries that drastically reduced their hotel rates in the first half of the year, posting the sixth biggest decline among tourism destinations around the world compared with the same period last year, a major international booking company has found.
A 60-page report published by Hotels.com — a subsidiary of Expedia — also showed that Athens now ranks among the top 10 choices for city breaks in Europe based on hotel prices.
With an average rate of 91 euros per night for a twin room — which corresponds to a 10 percent year-on-year decline — Athens is placed as the eighth best choice for a city break. Greece in general saw an 8 percent decline in hotel rates, with the average price for a twin room at 112.50 euros per night.
These prices make Greece the 44th most expensive among 77 destinations, though it is cheaper than Turkey, where the average rate stood at 125.50 euros during the first half of the year.
