ATHEX main index climbs to seven-month high

The Greek bourse?s benchmark index ended Thursday?s session at the highest point of the last seven months, clearing 790 points and gaining strength from the good start seen in New York.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 790.04 points, growing by 1.62 percent from Wednesday?s 777.48 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 1.58 percent, to close at 286.41 points.

Marfin Investment Group outperformed, adding 9.97 percent, followed by Bank of Cyprus (up 6.84 percent) and Viohalco (4.29 percent). Heading south were Cyprus Popular Bank (down 2.78 percent) and Public Power Corporation (2.25 percent).

In total, 84 stocks posted growth, 58 registered losses and 18 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 44 million euros, down from Wednesday?s 58.4 million.
