2004 ticketing gets the EU OK

The European Commission yesterday approved the ticket sales scheme by the organizers of next year’s Olympic Games, after 16 months of negotiations. It was the first time the Commission had dealt with such a scheme. The Commission decided that the ticket sales allow European Union citizens equal access and are compatible with the EU’s competition regulations. For the first time, all EU citizens will have an equal chance with citizens of an Olympics host country to buy tickets online. While pleased about the outcome, which was expected, Games organizers Athens 2004 are worried that few Greeks have applied as yet for tickets to the Games. The deadline for applications, whether online, by telephone or through Alpha Bank branches, is June 12.
