Benchmark bourse index ends unruly day in red

Stocks on the Greek bourse had a rollercoaster ride on Thursday as the benchmark index swung from red to green and back several times before ending with losses of almost 1 percent.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 881.22 points, shedding 0.96 percent from Wednesday?s 889.78 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index added 0.80 percent to close at 333.94 points.

Of the three blue chips that went up, Titan cement made the biggest gains, adding 3.67 percent. Marfin Investment Group posted a 3.82 percent loss.

In total, 61 stocks registered gains, 76 posted losses and 27 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 89.8 million euros, down from Wednesday?s 103 million.
