Quiet day in bourse in anticipation of developments

The week ended in the Greek bourse with losses for most stocks and with a quite low turnover, possibly owing to the fact that Friday was a holiday for several Greeks, so it might not be wise to deduce any particular conclusions from the day’s stock moves.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 874.54 points, shedding 0.76 percent from Thursday?s 881.22 points. On a weekly basis the benchmark index has added 0.45 percent.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined by 1.02 percent on Friday to close at 330.52 points.

With investors expecting political developments that may allow for the disbursmenet of the next bailout tranche next month, there was little move for most blue chips. Public Power Corporation added 3.58 percent while Marfin Investment Group gave up 5.37 percent.

In total, 59 stocks registered gains, 75 posted losses and 20 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 47.8 million euros, down from Thursday?s 89.8 million.
