Investors banking on passage of omnibus bill

The benchmark index of the Greek bourse added 0.40 percent on Tuesday to Monday?s major gains of 3.35 percent, as the market appeared confident that the government?s effort to have the omnibus bill of austerity measures passed through Parliament tonight would succeed.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index grew for a third successive session to end at 832.37 points, adding 0.40 percent to Monday?s closing figure of 829.07 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded 0.35 percent to close at 306.53 points.

The leading blue chips were OTE telecom (up 6.41 percent) and Hellenic Petroleum (5.74 percent), while National Bank gave up 2.59 percent.

In total 61 stocks went up, 66 came down and 19 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 71.3 million euros, down from Monday?s 79.8 million.
