Year-end rally continues in optimistic stock market

The year-end rally continued on Tuesday on the local bourse with the market bolstered by hopes for a successful conclusion to the bond buyback program, which explains the growth of bank stocks as well.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 872.03 points, expanding by 2.28 percent from Monday’s 852.63 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index added 2.32 percent to end up at 303.76 points.

All but four blue chips registered gains, led by Public Power Corporation (PPC), which grew by 7.54 percent, and Jumbo, which climbed 5.87 percent. Other gainers were Alpha Bank (up 5.03 percent) and Mytilineos (4.65 percent). Duty Free Shops declined by 1.80 percent.

In total 108 stocks posted gains, 50 took losses and 19 were unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 62.1 million euros, up from Monday’s 51.1 million.
