Tourists from Russia set to top 1 million

Existing data show that Russian visitors to Greece this year will exceed 1 million, while the German market is showing a 20 percent increase in bookings compared to 2012, suggesting that the target for a record 17 million tourists in 2013 is attainable.

The figures expected for this year are likely to eclipse the losses tourism suffered within 2012, such as the 8 percent year-on-year drop on the part of German visitors to this country, as cited by FVW, a German trade magazine for tourism and business travel.

Greek carrier Aegean Airlines has announced the operation of three regular services linking Moscow with various Greek destinations for the 2013 tourism season and is considering further additions as well.

Mouzenidis Travel, which has 51 offices across Russia and brought 300,000 tourists from that country to Greece last year, reports a 100 percent increase in bookings from Russia for this year.
