State-owned stocks keep index afloat

The local bourse again appeared to lack direction during Thursday’s session, with earners slightly edging out losers and a further drop in turnover.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 953.71 points, inching up 0.10 percent from Wednesday’s 952.78 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index contracted by 0.05 percent, ending at 324.14 points.

Banks reverted to their southbound course, but blue chips with a state stake, including the Public Power Corporation (up 2.29 percent), OPAP gaming company (0.47 percent) and OTE telecom (2.95 percent), kept the main index afloat. Eurobank Ergasias gave up 5.08 percent.

In total 78 stocks registered gains, 77 posted losses and 24 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 45.6 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 47.2 million.
