Ministry changes payment pension days to avoid bank queues

The dates on which Greek pensioners receive their monthly retirement pay is to change to ease queues at banks, the government has decided.

The Labor Ministry said that Greece’s main social security fund, IKA, would pay pensions on the penultimate working day of each month. Other pensions funds will credit pensioners’ accounts on the last working day of the month.

The farmers’ pension fund (OGA) and the fund for self-employed Greeks (OAEE) will be paid the next day, the ministry said.

Some 37,000 fewer pensioners will receive payments this month following a census to root out false claimants.
