ELPE blames FYROM refinery incident on mechanical failure

Hellenic Petroleum SA (ELPE), Greece’s largest refiner, said on Friday a mechanical failure affected its Okta refinery in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia on Wednesday, injuring one employee.

The company declined to say whether output from the plant was affected by what it described in an e-mailed statement as a mechanical failure of a valve during routine maintenance.

The plant has the capacity to process about 50,000 barrels of crude a day, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

The injured person was sent to hospital where he was kept for recovery.

The plant is near the FYROM capital, Skopje.
