Troika pressing Greece to end automatic wage increases

The troika is insisting that Greek workers who should not receive automatic wage increases based on the number of years they have served, Kathimerini understands.

The government is set to begin examining the minimum wage, which was reduced to 586.08 euros gross per month last year after pressure from Greece’s lenders.

Kathimerini understands that the troika wants the new scheme to exclude automatic pay rises. Under current labor legislation, workers earning the minimum wage see their salary increase by 58.61 euros per month every three years.

The calculation of the new minimum wage scheme comes at a time when collective contracts in most sectors have expired.
