State stocks help bourse index inch up

State companies propped up the local bourse on Wednesday as the benchmark index edged higher for a second session in a row through help from PPC, OTE and OPAP.

The Athens Exchange general index closed at 1,027.52 points, adding 0.53 percent to Tuesday’s 1,022.13 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index expanded by 0.39 percent, ending at 345.91 points.

PPC gained 4.68 percent, OPAP 4.25 percent and OTE 2.70, but they were outperformed by TERNA Energy, which rose 4.96 percent. Banks continued their descent, with Eurobank shedding 6.71 percent and National falling by 5.50 percent.

In total 76 stocks went up, 69 came down and 30 remained unchanged.

Turnover reached 65.4 million euros, up from Tuesday’s 52.2 million.
