Finance Ministry to hire 4,000 extra tax inspectors and revenue collectors

The government has announced that it is to hire more than 4,000 people to check tax statements and collect revenues.

Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras has approved the hiring of 4,091 extra staff, although most positions are likely to be filled by those already working within the public sector.

The hires will be employed in a new department responsible for checking the progress of revenue collection.

Greece is under pressure from its international lenders to improve tax collection.
