Unemployment in Greece rose to 26 pct in final quarter of 2012

Greece’s unemployment rate increased to 26 percent in the fourth quarter of 2012, compared with 24.8 percent in the third quarter, according to data published Thursday by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

The number of employed persons decreased by 1.5 percent compared with the previous quarter, and by 6.4 percent compared with the fourth quarter of 2011, the data showed.

Meanwhile, the number of unemployed persons increased by 5.2 percent compared with the previous quarter and by 26.3 percent compared with the fourth quarter of 2011, ELSTAT said.
