Probe into Iran sanctions breach by foreign firm in Greece

Greece is investigating a possible breach of European Union sanctions by a foreign company relating to Iran.

Merchant Marine and Aegean Minister Costas Mousouroulis ordered an immediate inspection of the company to consider the revocation of its permit to operate an office in Greece, according to a statement on the coast guard’s website late on Thursday.

The ministry forwarded all the relevant data to the Hellenic Financial Intelligence Unit, it said.

It didn’t name the company or a Greek citizen linked to the probe and said a preliminary investigation showed no involvement of Greek shipping companies or Greek-flagged vessels.
