AGET Heracles closes cement factory in Halkida as construction in Attica nosedives

Cement produced AGET Heracles, part of the Lafarge group, said on Tuesday that it is closing down a factory in Halkida, northeast of Athens.

The plant has been idle since July 2011 and the company said it is being closed down as part of a wider restructuring process.

Construction in Greece has plummeted during the economic crisis. The company said that the factory in Halkida provided cement for construction in Attica, where building activity has fallen by 80 percent since 2008.
