Some 2.5 million taxpayers to receive notices of debts

Some 2.5 million taxpayers should be expecting to receive a notice that they have overdue debts to the state, the Finance Ministry’s general secretary for revenues, Haris Theocharis, said on Tuesday.

The notices, which will be sent to taxpayers who have run up debts until the period of March 21, concern 2.5 million people with a total of around 21 billion euros owed to the state.

Each debtor will be issued with a special identification number, which can be used to pay any arrears at banks and post offices, the notices say.
