Stakes rising as bourse gets more volatile

Most stocks posted gains at the end of Thursday’s volatile session on the local bourse, but the losses registered by banks and Coca-Cola HBC, the chip with the highest capitalization, dragged the benchmark index lower. Turnover also rose significantly.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 918.81 points, shrinking by 0.53 percent from Wednesday’s 923.67 points.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 expanded by 0.20 percent to 300.97 points. Mid-caps added 0.97 percent and small-caps fared even better, gaining 1.30 percent.

Marfin Investment Group grew by 13 percent, while Coca-Cola HBC fell 8.60 percent and Natioal Ban gave up 7.44 percent.

In total 83 stocks posted gains, 54 suffered losses and 31 stayed put.

Turnover grew to 69.6 million euros from Wednesday’s 54.8 million.
