Bourse index writes off weekly losses

Banks and Coca-Cola HBC buoyed the main bourse index higher at the end of the week, though stocks were split down the middle between winners and losers.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 926.73 points, up 0.86 percent on Thursday’s 918.81 points. This was enough to offset the losses of previous days and allow for a small weekly rise of 0.02 percent.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 expanded by 0.40 percent to 302.17 points, but mid-caps fell 1.91 percent.

Alpha Bank gained 8.26 percent and Coca-Cola HBC grew by 8.24 percent, while Marfin Investment Group dropped 5.90 percent.

In total 68 stocks posted gains, 68 suffered losses and 23 stayed put.

Turnover shrank to 54.5 million euros from Thursday’s 69.6 million.
