Local tourism industry takes promotion initiative

The local tourism industry has undertaken a substantial role in promoting the Greek destination abroad with the foundation of Marketing Greece, a non-profit corporation that is to be officially launched in a press conference in Athens on Monday.

The aim of the initiative is to get Greece among the top 10 destinations in the world through the supply of high-quality marketing services to help state authorities rebrand the country’s tourism identity. Crucially, the corporation’s shareholders have reportedly committed to reinvesting any profits made to the tourism promotion of the country.

The new company has an original share capital of 2 million euros, of which 80 percent is from the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE), 17.5 percent from the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels and 2.5 percent from the association of Greek advertising companies (EDEE).

Marketing Greece will initially operate a website and five offices – for the UK, the American, the Russian-Ukrainian, the French- and German-speaking markets – to be followed later by another five for the markets in Italy, Scandinavia, Turkey, the Arab states and China.
