Greek government reduced arrears by 736mln in April, Finance Ministry says

The government paid off more than 700 million euros in arrears this month, Alternate Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Tuesday.

Staikouras said that the government had reduced its arrears of some 9 billion euros by 2.2 billion since the start of the year and suggested that the increased pace of payments, which saw the release of 736 million euros approved this month, would continue.

During the previous three months, the government had approved on average the payment of about 430 million euros, Staikouras said.
