Benchmark up as bank stocks’ rally continues

The third consecutive session of growth for bank stocks on the Greek bourse on Thursday brought their accumulated gains over the same period to 52.76 percent, as the market appears confident that the recapitalization process will be completed successfully.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,066.29 points, up 2.21 percent from Wednesday’s 1,043.28 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index rose 2.38 percent to end at 359.59 points.

National Bank outperformed again, climbing 12.14 percent. Hellenic Exchanges went up 8.51 percent.

Piraeus Bank hit a new trading volume record of 47 million shares, as its price grew by 3.07 percent.

In total 106 stocks posted gains, 57 registered losses and 22 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 104.1 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 168.3 million.
