Index drops 3 pct as investors cash in on week’s gains

After three straight sessions of considerable stock growth, investors cashed in on their gains on Friday, at the end of the fifth consecutive week with an increase (by 5.16 percent) for the benchmark index.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,034.39 points, shedding 2.99 percent from Thursday’s 1,066.29 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index fell 3.06 percent to end at 348.57 points, while small-caps continued their rise, adding 0.17 percent.

Jumbo (up 5.52 percent) and National Bank (3.54 percent) were the only blue chips to grow, while Alpha gave up 11.69 percent.

In total 63 stocks posted gains, 90 registered losses and 25 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 124.1 million euros, against Thursday’s 104.1 million.
