Stocks keep soaring as local bourse doubles its turnover

Bank stocks continued to skyrocket on the Greek bourse on Friday, as did the turnover, which was the highest in 22 months.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,152.60 points, rising by 1.62 percent from Thursday’s 1,134.28 points. On a weekly basis it has gained 11.43 percent.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index expanded by 2.84 percent to end at 406.29 points, though mid-caps posted a 0.68 percent decline.

National Bank shot up 22 percent, Marfin Investment Group added 14.07 percent and Piraeus posted a 13.74 percent rise. Alpha Bank gave up 6.50 percent.

In total 84 stocks registered gains, 83 suffered losses and 22 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 290 million euros, soaring from Thursday’s 148.2 million.
