Restaurant menus may have double prices

Provided that Greece succeeds in convincing its creditors to agree to a reduction in value-added tax on food service, the Development Ministry may introduce a regulation obliging restaraunt owners to display two separate prices on their menus: before and after the reduction.

Athens is expecting to discuss with representatives of the troika due to arrive in the Greek capital next week, the option of reducing VAT on food service from the current 23 percent to 13 percent.

The proposal will include a regulation forcing restaurateurs to follow the French model of twin price inscription in order to ensure that customers are actually benefiting from the VAT reduction.
