Sellers bring end to Athens bourse’s 3-day rising streak

Sellers took over on Tuesday afternoon at the Athens bourse after the brief euphoria of the morning arising from the Eurogroup decision petered out. The drop, for both the main index and the majority of stocks, put an end to a three-session rising streak.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 838.29 points, sliding 2.34 percent from Monday’s 858.40 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index declined by 2.44 percent to 285.55 points.

National Bank bucked the trend to post significant gains of 7.84 percent, while OTE telecom fell by 6.05 percent, Corinth Pipeworks contracted by 5.73 percent and Jumbo slumped 5.13 percent.

In total, 42 stocks posted gains, 71 recorded losses and 26 closed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 53.4 million euros, up from Monday’s 31 million.
