Third straight day of losses for local stocks

Morning stock gains reversed later in the day on the Greek bourse on Thursday, leading to a third session of losses for the main index of the stocks market, on reported tensions within the Hellenic Financial Stability Fund (HFSF) regarding the fate of Hellenic Postbank, due to be announced on Friday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 811.51 points, contracting by 0.98 percent from Wednesday’s 819.54 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index shrank by 0.76 to end at 277.64 points.

All but five blue chips headed south, with Marfin Investment Group shedding 6.21 percent. Jumbo grew by 2.19 percent.

In total, 47 stocks posted gains, 87 recorded losses and 18 stayed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 37.9 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 42.6 million.
