Zakynthos approves first hydroplane port

The Port Authority on the Ionian island of Zakynthos on Friday rubber-stamped a proposal for the creation of the island’s first hydroplane port, following the approval of a scheme for licensing several such ports by the Ionian Regional Authority earlier in the year.

The scheme aims to create air taxi links between the popular islands of the Ionian in the first phase, before expanding to include destinations on mainland Greece.

Authorities will invite bids for the Zakynthos hydroplane port from licensed operators within the next few weeks.

The operating costs of the project are expected to reach 30,000 euros, including licensing and certification.
