Bourse abuzz in a period when traders usually take a break

Stock prices and turnover continued their rising course on Friday, with the Greek bourse showing signs of life just when it was least expected, early August.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 916.56 points, growing 1.83 percent from Thursday’s 900.12 points. On a weekly basis the index gained 5.18 percent.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index expanded by 1.70 percent to end at 311.94 points.

Piraeus Bank soared 10.54 percent, followed by Titan Cement (up 7.48 percent) and Piraeus Port Authority (6.04 percent). Corinth Pipeworks fell 2.23 percent.

In total 73 stocks posted gains, 49 sustained losses and 23 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 49 million euros, up from Thursday’s 36.1 million.
