Piraeus and OPAP put on poor show but stocks edge higher

Winners gained the upper hand in lackluster trade at the Greek stock exchange on Monday, during a session marked by low volatility and mediocre turnover.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 917.75 points, up 0.13 percent from Friday’s close. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 rose 0.27 percent to end at 313 points.

Piraeus Bank was the focus of selling pressure after chalking up sizable gains last week, declining 2.80 percent to 1.04 euros. The OPAP betting firm was also out of favor, plunging 4.52 percent to 6.76 euros. OTE telecom, by contrast, continued edging higher, adding 0.85 percent to 7.08 euros. Alpha Bank added 1.95 percent to end at 0.47 euros and National Bank was stable at 2.56 euros.

Advancers outnumbered decliners by 68 to 56 and turnover topped 35 million euros.
