Bourse rises but remains in summer mode

A big slide in turnover took the shine off another day of gains for most local stocks on Thursday, as the bourse appears yet to emerge from its summer stagnation.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 929.78 points, adding 0.91 percent to Wednesday’s 921.40 points. The FTSE/ATHEX 25 index also expanded by 0.91 percent to end at 319.90 points.

Marfin Investment Group (up 3.79 percent), Viohalco (2.48 percent) and Alpha Bank (2.35 percent) posted the biggest blue chip gains, while Folli Follie (down 1.18 percent) and OPAP (1.07 percent) led the losers.

In total 73 stocks went up, 39 fell and 19 were unchanged.

Turnover dropped to 28.2 million euros from Wednesday’s 42.9 million.
