Small gains for index, but turnover drops below 50 mln
The Greek bourse managed to recover nearly half of Monday’s losses on Tuesday, with the main index bolstered by gains registered by blue chips OTE, EYDAP, Viohalco and Piraeus Bank.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,021.80 points, adding 0.76 percent to Monday’s 1,014.06 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded 0.73 percent to end at 345.90 points.
Most blue chips headed north, led by Viohalco (up 3.04 percent), Athens water company EYDAP (3.03 percent), Eurobank Properties (2.29 percent), Piraeus Port Authority (2.19 percent), OTE telecom (1.95 percent), Folli Follie (1.88 percent) and Piraeus Bank (1.60 percent).
Worst off were Hellenic Petroleum (down 1.54 percent) and Frigoglass (1.28 percent).
In total 79 stocks recorded gains, 38 suffered losses and 31 stayed put.
Turnover amounted to 49 million euros, down from Monday’s 56 million.
