OTE drags index below 1,900 points

Stocks fell yesterday on the Athens Stock Exchange, dragged lower by heavyweight OTE Telecom, which, trading ex-dividend, slumped 7.38 percent. The benchmark general index fell 1.28 percent to close at 1,867.79 points. Turnover fell to 100.8 million euros from Monday’s 124 million. There was 7.7 million euros’ worth of pre-arranged trade in share packets. National, Alpha and Emporiki banks helped stem losses by rising 0.27 percent, 0.66 percent and 0.79 percent, respectively. Sectoral indices had mixed results: Among the gainers were information technology solutions/equipment (3.68 percent) and textiles (2.34 percent). On the losing side were telecommunications (3.98 percent) and publishing and printing (2.93 percent). Blue chips dropped 1.72 percent, to 930.89 points, while mid-caps fell 0.47 percent and small-caps rose 1.42 percent. Info-Quest led individual gainers, rising 16.92 percent. The preferred shares of Xifias Fisheries fell 9.86 percent.
