Another week ends with a strong finish at the local bourse

Fridays are becoming the new Mondays at the Greek bourse, it would seem, as instead of the end-of-week lull one would have expected, the last session of each week over the last month or so has seen significant gains and notable turnover peaks, a pattern that was repeated on Friday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,067.87 points, expanding by 3.35 percent from Thursday’s 1,033.25 points. On a weekly basis it added 3.58 percent.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 rose 2.89 percent to end at 356.93 points.

Ellaktor outperformed, soaring 7.72 percent, while Piraeus Bank climbed 7.26 percent.

In total 93 stocks posted gains, 42 suffered losses and 18 stayed put.

Turnover more than doubled from Thursday’s 59.3 million euros to reach 123.3 million.
