Finance Ministry plans deposit of benefit for heating oil

The Finance Ministry’s new plan for heating benefits ahead of the winter of 2013-2014 will see an increase in the amount available to households, allowing for a small deposit to be paid to applicants in advance of the purchase of heating oil.

The General State Accounting Office has started examining the impact of the deposit on the state budget.

The deposit will likely add up to 100 million euros, but it remains unknown how many households will be able to tap into it.

A ministry official said that one proposal under consideration is to distribute the deposit across the households that apply for it, provided they consume heating oil.

At any rate, the plan will have to get the approval of the country’s creditors, which is expected by the end of the week.
