Bourse posts correction, but weekly gains approach 4 pct

Concerns about a possible overheating of the local stock market led to a decline in prices on Friday in a session dominated by the transfer of a 33 percent stake of OPAP from the state to Emma Delta.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,109.20 points, declining by 1.34 percent from Thursday’s 1,124.28 points. On a weekly basis it expanded by 3.87 percent.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 also contracted by 1.34 percent to end at 368.67 points.

Corinth Pipeworks slumped by 7.76 percent and Viohalco gave up 6.37 percent, while Hellenic Exchanges added 2.80 percent.

In total, 50 stocks showed gains, 94 posted losses and 16 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 719.5 million euros as it included the 622 million paid for the OPAP stake.
